Constitution of South Seattle Saddle Club

Article I – Name

This Club shall be known as the South Seattle Saddle Club, Inc.

Article II – Objective

To create fellowship. To stimulate interest in horses and to further good horsemanship. To improve and encourage junior horsemanship.

Article III – Club Colors

The colors of the club shall be green and white.

Article IV- Membership

Section I – Any person interested in the objects for which this club is formed, and is willing to pay the yearly dues, and will meet the membership requirements as set out in the club by-laws, shall be eligible for membership.

Section II – Senior members shall be 18 years or older on January 1st. A junior member is 13 to 18 years of age and may ride with the consent of parents or guardians, or is under the guardianship of a senior member. Anyone under the age of 13 years is automatically a buckaroo so long as their parents or guardians belong to this club.

Section III – All applications for membership will be accepted at any time. Applications must be presented with one year club dues.   Applications will be reviewed at the next board meeting. Approved applicants will become associate members and a sponsor will be assigned.

Section IV – New memberships must be approved or disapproved by the membership committee at the end of one year. If disapproved, the applicant is no longer associated with the club. If approved, the member will become a full member.

Section V – Full memberships are entitled to all social and voting privileges extended to the membership by the constitution and by-laws.

Article V – Dues

Section I – Yearly club dues for individual members, and the family plan, may be changed by the recommendation of the board of directors and approved by the club at the November business meeting. The fiscal calendar is January 1st to December 31st. Yearly dues must be paid no later than March 1st. If a hardship exists, please contact the president.

Article VI – Officers and Elections

Section I  – The officers of the club shall be President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Scribe, Sergeant at Arms, and Zone Representative.

Section II – The club shall elect a nominating board of five members, the chairman of which shall be the Sergeant at Arms.

Section III – The Board of Directors shall consist of 13 members: All officers, members of the nominating board, and the immediate past president.

Section IV – All officers shall serve one year, not more than two consecutive years, in the same office.

Article VII – Committees

Section I – The committees shall be as follows: Games director, Grounds, Social and Concession.

Section II – The chairman of each committee shall be appointed by the president.

Section III – The membership committee shall consist of current board members.

Section IV – The budget committee shall consist of the president, vice president, and the treasurer. This committee shall submit a proposed budget.

Article VIII – Form of business

Section I – The meetings of this club shall be called by the president whenever necessary for the purpose of transacting business, besides the regular monthly meeting.

Section II – All changes in this constitution shall be recommended at two meetings and all members shall be notified in writing, before the following business meeting for the vote.

Section III – So long as there are five members left in the club, the property cannot be sold. This section is not debatable, nor can it be changed by an amendment to this constitution, except by 100 percent vote of the membership.

Article IX – Miscellaneous

Section I – This club shall not be responsible for accidents entailing injuries to person or persons, horses or damage to private or public property.
